Walton Lea Project - '' a growing centre ''
Walton Lea is a busy place! We provide work experience and learning for people with learning difficulties in a beautiful Victorian walled garden near Warrington.
The charity started in 1997 with just 7 people. Today we have grown and have 50 people (across our 2 sites) who regularly attend at least once a week.
- We grow fruit, vegetables and plants for sale.
- Our shop and the garden itself are open to the public from Monday to Friday from 9.00 - 4.00pm. There is no charge for entry.
- We make a range of wooden items - planters, bird feeders, bug boxes and bird boxes.
- We use computers to help improve basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- We help people learn and develop life, social and work skills.
- Our bright red van operates a mobile shop which takes fruit and vegetables to people in our local area who find shopping difficult such as those in sheltered housing schemes.
- We do contract work for other agencies such as the Woodland Trust
- We run a monthly farmers market with other local producers.
- We run workshops and learning opportunities for the public and the wider community.
- We have a lovely new Garden Room which is available for hire.
